ComparePlayMetrics
A PlayMetrics alternative for associations run by volunteers
Which is better for a youth sports association, InSeasonHQ or PlayMetrics?
If your association is run by volunteers (a registrar, a treasurer and a board), InSeasonHQ is the better fit: a published $750 a year, one checkout per family, Volunteering with buyouts built in, and one independent owner. If you are a competitive club with paid staff and directors of coaching who need tryout-evaluation and curriculum depth, or your governing body has standardized on a PlayMetrics product, PlayMetrics is the better fit. The full comparison is below.
PlayMetrics calls itself an operating system for youth sports clubs, and for competitive clubs with paid staff and directors of coaching, it's built to be exactly that. It also owns SportsEngine (since May 2026), Sports Connect (through its 2025 merger with Stack Sports) and Crossbar, which it runs as its youth hockey platform (per deal coverage and PlayMetrics' own site, checked Oct 2026)*. If your organization is a community association run by a registrar, a treasurer and a board that meets on Tuesdays — no director of coaching, no staff — this page is the honest comparison.

Why boards switch (or choose us first).
- No director of coaching required. A registrar and a treasurer can run a full season — registration, money, volunteering, schedules — without club-OS complexity.
- The price is published. $750/yr flat versus a demo-gated quote.
- One product, one owner. PlayMetrics now operates SportsEngine, Sports Connect, Crossbar and its own platform. Our roadmap is one product, set by the associations using it.
- One checkout per family, with a bank rate about half the card rate, shown to families in dollars before they pay.
Where PlayMetrics is the better fit — honestly.
- Competitive clubs with paid staff — directors of coaching, curriculum and tryout-evaluation workflows — are PlayMetrics' home ground, and its depth there exceeds ours. Our tryout evaluation scoring is coming, not live.
- If your governing body has standardized on a PlayMetrics product, the choice may not be yours. Chartered Little League registration, for one, runs through Sports Connect, which PlayMetrics now owns (see our Sports Connect comparison for the mandate and its source).
- Scale and resources: PlayMetrics is now the largest owner in this category. If consolidation comfort is what your board wants, that's a legitimate reason to choose them.
Questions boards ask about this one.
- Did PlayMetrics buy SportsEngine?
- Yes — the acquisition from Versant completed May 1, 2026 (per Versant's press release). No forced migration or sunset has been announced for SportsEngine.
- Does PlayMetrics own Crossbar too?
- Yes. PlayMetrics' own site describes Crossbar as its dedicated platform for youth hockey (checked Oct 2026). With SportsEngine and Sports Connect, that is three registration platforms under one owner, alongside PlayMetrics itself.
- How much does PlayMetrics cost?
- Pricing is quote-based; there is no public pricing page (checked Oct 2026). InSeasonHQ publishes $750/yr flat plus its two transaction rates.
- Is InSeasonHQ just for small associations?
- It's built for volunteer-run associations and clubs that run seasons — registration through volunteering, store, equipment and check-in — without paid operations staff. If you employ a director of coaching, compare the tryout/coaching depth carefully; that's PlayMetrics' strength.
- What happens to our data if we leave InSeasonHQ?
- You export your data and leave whenever you like. Your families and your records are yours.
